Amanda gains overall European Formula 2 championship lead! Amanda Whitaker had another successful racing weekend, taking two 2nd places in the Formula Atlantic class at Silverstone. Racing at the Northamptonshire track where she works as an instructor, Amanda revelled in tricky wet qualifying conditions and used her local knowledge to grab class Pole Position and 6th overall. She even headed the field outright in the opening minutes of the session against the more powerful higher classed cars!
Despite being disappointed in not being able to hold off class competitor Chris Sharples in both races over the weekend, Amanda finish a strong 6th & 8th overall and her consistently good form leaves her as not only the Formula Atlantic Class leader, but also now at the outright head of the table of the European Formula 2 Championship!
"I struggled with the car's grip in the wet & couldn't drive as hard as I wanted, so wasn’t able to take the win this time. However, we've got some setup changes to make which will hopefully be ready in time for Brands Hatch in a fortnight. This should make the car even better and allow me to get the results I’m looking for". Saturday’s race was won by Philip Harper in his Ralt RT1 from Christian Fischer racing a Chevron B35 for the first time. Sunday’s race was run in torrential conditions and was won by Christian Fischer who put in a superb drive to pull out a large lead after fighting off a strong early challenge by local hero Chris Alford who was eventually hampered by a misfire & had to settle for second. |
