Amanda's takes two home wins
Amanda took 2 class wins in URS Classic Formula Ford 1600 this weekend at Croft. Using her local knowledge at the venue where she once held the outright lap record, Amanda took 2 front row starting positions, even against the much newer Pre '84 Class A cars than her 1971 Elden Mk8. She made a good getaway in the first race to take the lead outright into the first bend, pulling 2 seconds clear of the pack by the end of the first lap. However, she succumbed to the Class A car of Joe Walton on lap 7 and took 2nd place outright and a Class win. In the second race, she made an even better start from Pole Position and battled hard to keep Walton behind. Eventually, she was forced to settle for second behind Walton but then came under increasing pressure from the other Class A cars of Paul Walton (Joe's father) & Keith Davey. They both dived past at Clervaux on the 5th lap...and straight through the gravel! "I could see them both coming in too fast, and all 3 of us weren't going to make it around the same corner" she said "They were fighting tooth & nail, so I thought it was best to give them some space and they only just made it through". As she look set to take 4th overall, the pair tangled at the hairpin just before the chequered flag and she came through the carnage to finish 2nd overall and take the class win once again.
Last weekend at Pembrey in Wales, she took two 5th places in the separately run Historic Formula Ford Championship, despite having a bent valve & brake problems. Her results have now moved her up to 3rd place in the championship.
